Gun 'n Knife show

Went to the most recent local bazillion Guns n Knife show at the local arena last weekend with Mushtaq.
This was actually my first time at one of these events. This being hunting country, I’ve seen enough guns.
And being an FMA guy, I’ve been through enough knives to be at the point where I know what I want and already have it.
So, there are better things to spend time and money on, especially these days.
But I have gotten into looking for obscure, antique Filipino blades, particularly Moro blades, and sometimes you get lucky, you know?
I’m a bit more knowledgeable and discerning these days (thanks to a good friend) on value and quality so I won’t get taken either.

I gotta say, there are just way too many guns out there. Now, I get the collecting bug. We all have a tendency to collect something.
And owning, collecting and keeping antique guns is a pretty cool hobby. There’s a lot of neat history there.
And there was a lot of that, actually some very cool stuff.
But the newer stuff that was not hunting oriented but made to look like an assault rifle? Way too much of it.
It’s a scary thought to think how much of it is out there (and for what purpose). I’m sure there’s a fanboy aspect to it too.
I remarked to Chris later that there was a lot of odd looking individuals there too, and it’s scary to think they have guns.
To which Chris remarked “Yes, but it’s also GOOD to know they’re out there”.
There was two guys walking around selling Grenade launchers at $250 appiece. When asked what for, one said "I dunno but I've sold 4 already!"

Interesting to see what some of the latest knives are, what they’re going for and how overpriced they are at the shows.

Oh, did I buy any thing?
Well, I found a Visayan Talibon that was worth about $25 for $75 and a souveneir Gunong that was worth $15 priced at $75 as well.
I don’t think so.
I did need a new belt and picked up a surplus one for $3.50. That plus the cost of admission was far cheaper than belts in the dept store so the trip was worth it.

One other thing I was surprised to find was cheap motorcycle goggles. We've been looking for some foam lined, safety glasses for some time to use in sparring practice.
Found these for $10.50 so we picked up a few.

Oh, and the hand pose? Yeah, I told Cole to give me a goofy pose, I knew he could pull that off.
When we were in the PI and we would try to take a kid’s photo, they would all do the same hand gesture.
We thought it was rather odd, like maybe some sort of strange gang sign.
Turned out to be their version of posing for a glamour shot! So we all started doing it.
Oh, knife's not big enough for ya?

sounds like fun!
I was at the Shedd aqurium in chicago last week and seen in the philippine sea exhibit a photo of 2 young kids with one of them doing that same pose!
That took me back to a fond trip.
I agree with Chris, it's good to know who is out there with guns and no just gang kids!
