motivati0n

Using the little stat tracker I have loaded can be kinda fun, just to see where people are and what they were searching for. And a bit misleading.
I made a post a very, long time ago called "motivati**als for the d*y".

I routinely get hits for this daily and "a large or*nge drink". (what? are people in the drive through surfing on their phone and they forget to talk into the speaker in the clown?)

I guess people need the internet everyday for their motivation. What would they do before they had it? Stay home and watch Jerry Springer to feel better?
For those of you who need a few more:

First crocus of spring

To me the first sign of spring isn't a robin, it's the crocus

This little gem popped up Saturday.

Got up to around 60 yesterday and today as well as expected to be 68 tomorrow.
Ah yes, training outside again!

Astute observation

"There's a statistical theory that if you gave a million
monkeys typewriters and set them to work, they'd eventually
come up with the complete works of Shakespeare. Thanks to
the Internet, we now know this isn't true

Gun 'n Knife show

Went to the most recent local bazillion Guns n Knife show at the local arena last weekend with Mushtaq.
This was actually my first time at one of these events. This being hunting country, I’ve seen enough guns.
And being an FMA guy, I’ve been through enough knives to be at the point where I know what I want and already have it.
So, there are better things to spend time and money on, especially these days.
But I have gotten into looking for obscure, antique Filipino blades, particularly Moro blades, and sometimes you get lucky, you know?
I’m a bit more knowledgeable and discerning these days (thanks to a good friend) on value and quality so I won’t get taken either.

I gotta say, there are just way too many guns out there. Now, I get the collecting bug. We all have a tendency to collect something.
And owning, collecting and keeping antique guns is a pretty cool hobby. There’s a lot of neat history there.
And there was a lot of that, actually some very cool stuff.
But the newer stuff that was not hunting oriented but made to look like an assault rifle? Way too much of it.
It’s a scary thought to think how much of it is out there (and for what purpose). I’m sure there’s a fanboy aspect to it too.
I remarked to Chris later that there was a lot of odd looking individuals there too, and it’s scary to think they have guns.
To which Chris remarked “Yes, but it’s also GOOD to know they’re out there”.
There was two guys walking around selling Grenade launchers at $250 appiece. When asked what for, one said "I dunno but I've sold 4 already!"

Interesting to see what some of the latest knives are, what they’re going for and how overpriced they are at the shows.

Oh, did I buy any thing?
Well, I found a Visayan Talibon that was worth about $25 for $75 and a souveneir Gunong that was worth $15 priced at $75 as well.
I don’t think so.
I did need a new belt and picked up a surplus one for $3.50. That plus the cost of admission was far cheaper than belts in the dept store so the trip was worth it.

One other thing I was surprised to find was cheap motorcycle goggles. We've been looking for some foam lined, safety glasses for some time to use in sparring practice.
Found these for $10.50 so we picked up a few.

Oh, and the hand pose? Yeah, I told Cole to give me a goofy pose, I knew he could pull that off.
When we were in the PI and we would try to take a kid’s photo, they would all do the same hand gesture.
We thought it was rather odd, like maybe some sort of strange gang sign.
Turned out to be their version of posing for a glamour shot! So we all started doing it.
Oh, knife's not big enough for ya?

Putrified brains

Youtube can be pretty kewl, you can find just about anything if you know how to look (though how Steve Perry finds it, I'll have to wait another 20yrs to understand).
Not that you can find everything, but alot of things., though most of the guys teaching quality martial arts aren't posting vids for just anyone, expecially some fool with a modem.

But there's a dark side. Yes, I'm talking about the putrification of our children's brains.
Cole's a reasonably bright kid. Loves computer games but can put on the gloves and throwdown with just about anyone. GPA of 4.0 (yeah, I am proud, so?).

But I could only shake my head at what the kids at school are turning him on to these days.......

WARNING: only watch once. I am not responsible if this burns into your memory in a loop.

Now, to set your brain straight, here's some real stimulating viewing with the Bobbe Edmonds highbrow stamp of approval.

And then some

It actually got pretty nasty weather-wise Saturday night. The snow kept coming down and a good 25mph wind. Nice winter storm, roads were terrible that night. Plenty of work created for the body shops.

Sunday morning arrived crisp and bright. Beautiful day for riding! Easily 10-12" of powder in places.

When you wish upon a star

Makes a difference where you are.

It got ups to 59 degrees a few weeks ago, pretty much melted everything. Felt like spring and everything that goes with it.
But since then it's just been miserably cold. Everyone comments on how are you holding up with the weather.

Me? I keep telling them I want a few more heavy snow storms so we can get some more riding in.

Supposed to get 2- 6" today!

Got 2" in one hour already.
